The wireless light can it be kept on?

Can the wireless light on the lap top be kept on even when the wire is connected from the to from the computer thanks? Im worried since the other day the wireless light went out and I couldnt get a wireless connection and I keep the wire connected to the hub for stronger signals. but I still want to use the computer without wire sometimes. Since then I have had the wireless light back on. That day I put something onto the lap top a picture just to take a photo of it and the wireless light went out and giving the computer no wireless connection but for some unforeseen reason everything seemed to be normal again with the wireless back on again. I hope its clear what I mean thanks?
