What would happen if they monetized YouTube? would it ruin it completely or boom it sky high?

OK, say something like this...first they come up with a payment agency, not unlike PayPal but hopefully cheaper, then anyone who wants to could open an account and put a few dollars in it. then uploads would always be free but to watch a video would cost 1 cent. just a penny per view. thats cheap enough to not discourage anyone from browsing and of course it wouldnt mean much to the average uploader but the few extraordinary viral videos that regularly come along could make some fairly serious bucks. last i checked the homeless DJ guy Ted Williams was approaching 2 million views. thats $20,000 he would make, or his uploader would make. and of course as for that question Im sure the lawsuits would begin a flying, but thats always the case till these things get worked out. Tay Zonday would have earned $610,000 for the original "chocolate rain". of course YouTube and the payment router would take a little bite, but thats OK. It would offer them a way to make some money other than just adding more advertising, which nobody wants and it would offer any real serious videographers out there a reason to try harder. people could actually make a living with their camcorders if their stuff was good enough. maybe one cent is too small, i dunno. maybe there are glitches unforeseen. no, of course there are glitches unforeseen. and maybe it would just ruin the mood of the whole thing, the free for all quality, but maybe not. money has strange effects on everything, dont it now? watchya think?
